A high school english teacher is suing a chain of movie theaters because she wants the 4 minutes back that she lost due to those pre-movie commercials.
Here’s a link for the whole article.
I think this lady is missing the point. In the article it points out that sometimes these commercials run about 10 minutes prior to the film, that I think is kinda silly… but 4 minutes? That’s not a big deal.
Plus think of it this way lady, do you know what is paying for you to be able to sit in that theater? I guarantee you it isn’t the $7.50+ that you forked over for the ticket. Movies take a lot of money to be made, Theaters take a lot of money to afford movies to show.
I think some people have forgotten the reason for advertising anymore. Not too many people do research on it, or know the past. Advertising is a source of funding for many, if not every, bit of entertainment.
I can understand maybe regulating how long the commercials run at the beginning of the movie, 3 minutes is fine. This lady wants her 4 minutes back. Eesh, now she’s taking out MORE time of her life to bother with this lawsuit. Is she going to sue for that too?
I can see the advertising industry winning on this one, with maybe a restriction on time being the settlement. However, they might lose in the long run. People, who throw fits about the commercials, will start to arrive a smidge later at the theater, figuring “ah we’ll just miss those stinky commercials, but make it in time for the trailers”.. and maybe that theater wasn’t running ads, so maybe those people miss the beginning of the movie.. Oh the uproar then.
That’s another thing, trailers.. uh hello Lady.. these are commercials two, yet it seems you’re ok with that. You know that car that Mel Gibson is driving in that movie you’re watching? Well it’s not there by accident.
Does this lady not buy products? How does she know what to buy? How is she enfluenced? Does she just go to the grocery store and read every product… becoming confused with the difference between similar products? I’m not saying that having the commercials in the movies are the only source of enfluencing, but it adds to it.
So my advice to this lady, watch the damned commercials, just get comfy in your seat, eat your popcorn, and try not to have that stick up your bum bother you too much while you watch your movie.
