Row of Lanterns, Downtown Los Gatos
A few weeks ago Dave, Jennie, Cathrin and I went to downtown Los Gatos to have a drink and some dinner (it was yet another “Cathrin’s going away and we’re going to miss her so let’s all hangout” event.) It was such a fun night, and one of the highlights was walking up and down the sidewalk and peering into various shop windows. Of course, I was snapping away, and this was one of my favorite shots from that night.

While playing some Hold’em poker with my mom and dad this weekend, we flipped on a TiVoed movie called “The Last Waltz”, a 1978 Scorsese film on the last concert for the Band. As various music legends graced the stage, one particularly caught my mother’s attention.
As Neil Young started to play along with the Band, my mother decided to announce that Neil Young had “soft, baby butt hands”. For someone who played guitar for a living, this is quite an accomplishment, no?
So how did my mother know this?
Well, it was 1970…
(and here is where the screen gets wiggly and you hear weird noises as you’re sucked into a flashback.. sort of)
My mother, at 15 or 16 years old, went to visit her aunt and uncle in Redwood City where they were caretakers of Neil Young’s ranch. When she showed up, Neil Young and Steven Stills were “jamming” in her uncle’s little red barn since the “Broken Arrow” studio hadn’t been completed yet.
When she met him, she shook his hands.. his “soft, baby butt hands.”

The phantom of the opera is there, inside my mind…
On Saturday I went with my mother and watched The Phantom of the Opera at our local movie theater. I was completely blown away. I loved.. LOVED.. the music (the organ!), the story, the costumes, the set design.. it was beautifully done.
I’m also thankful that Andrew Lloyd Webber had his hand in the movie because there’s a big chance it probably would have lost it’s theatrical integrity once hitting the movie screen.
I only wish one day I can see it on stage. The moments when the Phantom of the Opera speaks to the cast.. I can just imagine how powerful it must feel to be in a theatre. The way it was done on film, had the essence of a theatre performance though.
So I’m planning to drag Adam to it this week. I must see it again. But until then, I will just listen to the soundtrack over and over again.

Mangopolitan
The above is a drink from E&O Trading Co., a restaurant a bunch of us went to for Cathrin’s “goodbye and good luck!” dinner. After a couple of hours ice skating at Downtown Ice with co-workers (ok well, I just took photos – no way am I going to trust my ankles just yet) we stopped at the Paragon lounge for a drink and some political chitchat with our boss. She moved on to a dinner meeting and we (my co-workers and Adam) headed to E&O. The food is great – it’s a mixture of cuisines of Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, and East India. I believe my favorite of the small plates we ordered were the Tea Smoked Pork Lettuce Cups. Mmm!!
So after a few hours of silly stories, random photography (but of course), and astrology discussions, we decided that 10pm would be a good time to head home. We said our goodbyes and parted ways.
We’ll miss you Cathrin!!

:: kc! has the coolest iPod ever.
:: I’m not only addicted to all things Firefox (mom & dad, GET RID OF IE.) I’m addicted to StumbleUpon, an extension for Firefox. You sign up (throw down your junk-mail-only email addy) and pick a few of your favorite topics. When you install the toolbar into Firefox, you can randomly visit sites geared toward your preferences. Plus you can review them, give them a thumbs up or down and it tracks what you like. You’ll find yourself saying “ok just 3 more clicks and i’ll get off the computer.” Four hours later you finally leave for a pee break.
:: Spamusement! This guy takes the titles of all the spam he gets and draws goofy little drawings. Be warned, after a few in a row, you’ll find the one that will make you laugh out loud. By the way, this site was pointed out to me by Marc, who I got hooked on Stumble! and according to him, I have brought his productivity down at work. Mwa ha ha!
:: The Uncle Liam Show – Jen’s brother Liam created a DVD of songs and videos for her son Arlo’s first birthday. The theme song is so adorable and it will no doubt get stuck in your head. What a creative idea!

Every now and then, we’ll be driving down Great America Parkway at night and I’d notice the Nortel Networks building. Each floor is a color and the theme runs across the whole building (not just the stairwell). So one day the tripod was in the trunk and I had my camera so Adam and I stopped by and I took some shots.
