Busy day!
Today I attended a wedding of a good friend of mine. I’ve known Amandeep since 2nd grade (back when she’d always wear her hair in a long braid, frilly little dresses, and be a shy as can be!) Now she is a married woman. Her wedding was a traditional Sikh wedding and it was so beautiful. Obviously, I didn’t understand anything that wasn’t in English – and I think the only part in English was when some guy said the ceremony was over and lunch was being served.
Amandeep’s dress was so amazing – deep red and orange with gold sprinkled about. Such a gorgeous bride! See for yourself (and her slightly-in-a-daze new hubby, hehe):

Getting to the wedding was a silly adventure itself. Adam and I thought we were running late and my friend Amber (hi amber!) was already at the temple and had called us. She told us that as she arrived, she saw everyone leave. (This is at 9am, by the way.) She said she talked with a few people and then some guy said the tea/snack part of the shindig was going to happen at “her aunt’s house.” So those confused (Amber and some of Amandeep’s co-workers) followed the guy about 6 miles away from the temple. We just happened to be around the corner when the switch was happening, so we coordinated with Amber and followed her to the spot. We get out of the car and follow other people to a house – but it seems a little odd. Why all of a sudden is the tea thing in a different location? What happens to those that arrive late? Confusion! The co-workers had gone in first and as we started to walk toward the house they began walking back. Laughter began as they informed us it was the WRONG WEDDING.
Oh my!
So we hopped back into our cars and jetted aaaaaaaaalll the way back to the temple – still with ample time to spare.
Clothing.. now when I had talked to my friends about going to this wedding, I kept getting advice on what to/not to wear. I was told to not wear white or black and to be as colorful as I can. Ok so if you know me then you know I’m a fan of dark colors. My clothing doesn’t get toooo bright (I do have a few shirts though.) So I decided to wear a skirt I haven’t worn in over a year (this one) and luckily I recently bought a blue/tealish shirt that matched the skirt. Wee! Not black. Not white. Still moderately dark but colorful! Of course, when we get there, all of Amandeep’s co-workers and college friends were wearing dark colors (mostly black!) Well pfft. Hehe, her neighbor at one point asked a few of the girls “sooo, apparently you didn’t get the memo about ‘colorful’?” teehee! So thank you Iris, Sweta, and Vijay for all of the advice you gave me! Oh and the scarfy thing I bought (at Macy’s with a mystery gift card I had) totally matches with my skirt/shirt. So I looked like I actually planned my outfit/headscarfyness.
Food… we nibbled on some yummies – no idea what it was, veggie yes, but other than that no clue! But the highlight… naan! (Mr. Internet says I spelled that right.. here’s hoping!) Yummy yum yum!
Unfortunately because of a compact weekend, I had to make my visit to Modesto really short which meant only getting to hang out for lunch/dinner with my parents and then a quick visit with my grandpa.
Tonight I finished the cupcakes for my co-worker’s baby shower that we’re throwing tomorrow. Don’t they look cute?!
