Hosting changes

Published by Jennifer under geekery

First I want to say THANK YOU! to my friend Kendra (who is currently livin’ it up in the Virgin Islands – I’m so jealous!) who has graciously hosted my website since I moved it from AOL way-back-when. But as time has moved on I’ve needed more and more space and frankly was using up too much (teehee) – it was time to buy some hosting. I’ve moved on to Dreamhost at the advice of my coworker/IT guy.

After about 3 hours of working with DomainDiscover, Yahoo, Blogger, and Dreamhost – I THINK I have 95% 80% of everything figured out. I got rid of the first two and republished Blogger.

My problem, however, is that I can’t seem to get an RSS/Atom feed to work. So if you try to re-add me to your feeds, it won’t work just yet.

(Yay now I have image issues. Pfft. I’m done for now, gotta move on to something else.)

Day in the life of.. me!

Published by Jennifer under me, penny, photography

My birthday pony

There was another Flickr “Day in the life of” yesterday! Time to participate!

My day starts out with a shower; scrub scrub, rinse and repeat. This photo is quite boring, but you’ll notice the nifty new organizing caddy thing. I bought this courtesy of my uncle and aunt’s christmas giftcard to Bed Bath & Beyond. It’s such a good purchase – first, the shelves slide up and down AND left and right. Is there nothing better?! … ok I need help when I’m that excited over housewares.

Clean clean clean..

Then when I’m all nice and clean I come into the bedroom where the bed has been made by Adam and Penny is usually jumping or running around. Sometimes she’s sitting on the windowsill checking out the birdies. After that she usually runs into the bathroom and jumps onto the sink. She’s ready to get her morning drink from the sink.

Playing with Penny in the morning Penny gets something to drink

Now today was a bit unusual. It was my Fake Birthday at the office. My real birthday is later this week, however because of everyone’s schedules they decided to celebrate today. So my coworker Sarah got me a few goodies; a purple lei, a birthday button, and a cute little wind-up toy. Later in the day everyone met up for birthday cake! Now, almost every office birthday the cake is the same one from Greenlee’s Bakery. Nothing against Greenlee’s, but variety is good! Spice of life and all that jazz. Anyway, so tangenting a bit here… a few months ago, Sarah, my other coworker Jenny, and I were at Baskin Robbin’s (I’m allowed a scoop of ice cream, mmkay?) and I saw in the display case the totally cute My Little Pony decorated ice cream cakes. I mentioned that this was the cake I wanted for my office birthday! I mean really, who wouldn’t? Oh maybe some mature grown-up…. thank goodness that’s not me! So I got my cake! I haven’t gotten a My Little Pony since way back in the 80s. Man I had so many, they didn’t even fit into my carry-case…. aaaand back to the present. Ooo look, photos:

Birthday goodies Damn right - this is my cake

Work, work, work… then home. Watched Monday’s episode of How I Met Your Mother – love that show, have I mentioned that? Never fails to entertain me. NPH did an awesome impression of David Letterman at the end of this episode. He did a top-ten list. The one that made it to air was funny, but he also had a slightly dirtier one. Later, Adam, Penny and I gathered to watch the American Idol results show. I’m glad Stephanie is gone, I didn’t care much for her. Boring snoring. Couldn’t care less that Chris Richardson was part of the bottom two as well. ZZzzz. Moving on…

Aaand then I took a photo of the two goobers in my life:

"Web 2.0 grows up"

Published by Jennifer under geekery, web

Walking around in my office I noticed the cover of BM – Business Management Magazine sitting in my boss’ mailbox. Oddly enough I knew immediately the two people on the cover – Catrina Fake and Stewart Butterfield, founders of Flickr. So I snagged the magazine and checked out the article. The article title “Web 2.0 grows up” talked mostly of Flickr and Digg. Good article.. but one of the first things I looked for were photos. To my surprise, the photos they used to illustrate the article were stock photos!

In an article about how great “Web 2.0″ is, not one Creative Commons licensed photos – which are aplenty on Flickr – were used. Hmm. Not even a screenshot of Digg. While I understand the article was more about the usage and philosophy of these sites rather than specific content, I just thought the article missed the boat a bit.

Tom Hanks Has to Pee

Published by Jennifer under nifty, web

Like doves in a John Woo flick, the act of reliving himself is in many Tom Hanks movies.

No, I’m not crazy, I just found out about this today. I was not the one to go through his movies, nor was I the one to create a quiz matching scenes to the movies they were in.

Oh no that was what Mental Floss did – and I got the quiz right! Granted, I had to ask about the Green Mile because I haven’t seen it before, nor the Road to Perdition.

So click on over to Mental Floss’ “There’s no ‘P’ in Tom Hanks” quiz and test your knowledge!

Hockey

Published by Jennifer under photography, san jose

I went to my first San Jose Sharks game last Monday for Al’s birthday. It was pretty fun! Granted our seats were farther away than they usually are when we go to SJSU hockey games, they were still pretty damn good. Lonny (with Katrina and others) went too. I gotta say it was a little odd watching a hockey game WITH Lonny rather than watching him play on the ice.

Those were some fun times though… cold, but fun!
