Scrapbook Splurge

Published by Jennifer under scrapbooking, shopping

I have learned a few things from my first experience at a scrapbook expo.

1. I am glad I do not know any bitchy scrapbookers. Actually, they should be glad they don’t know me. I was ready to slap some rude ass hos today.

2. There’s not enough time in the world for me to take on all the various project tools and kits I saw today.

3. Although I had my two canvas bags (plus my Target zippy, just in case) I should have brought a giant canvas bag…or two.

Even though it is Saturday and I *really* wanted to sleep in, I dragged my ass out of bed an HOUR earlier than I normally do for work. Shannon picked me up and we hit up Starbucks for some yummy, caffeinated treats. After we find the fairgrounds in Pleasanton and meet up with some of Shannon’s co-workers, we stand in line and wait for the doors to open. I’m checking out the little program doodad and notice that some of these smart vendors have placed coupons OR notices about FREE things in their ads. I point out to the group that a specific company is giving away a free kit. (And 5 free kits if you sign up to some kit of the month club.) They deemed me leader and once the doors opened we b-lined it there.

Now, if you know me, I don’t like kits. I don’t like to be told THIS IS WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE. DO THIS. Screw that, I want to dream it up myself or be inspired by multiple projects and build my own. But.. free is free. A girl won’t knock free. So after the guy gave his speech about the difference between kits, I picked out one that I liked the paper the most. These kids had little paper embellishments that LOOKED like items (paper that looked like ribbon, paper that looks like an embellished tag, etc) so unless I work those up a lot, I won’t be using them.

Doors had opened at 9am. We walked out of there sometime after 1:40 or so. Here’s my loot:

  • I bought a 12×12 book for myself (going to be a 2008 book)
  • Embroidery templates
  • Cute paper frames (which I hope I don’t distribute as gifts to anyone reading this right now)
  • “Souffle” pens
  • T-shirt that says “Holy Scrap!” teehee
  • stamp pads and other crap

All of this, and a few items taken out of the photo (they’ll be used in gifts) and I was under budget! Yay!

Now, it’s nap time. Tomorrow I begin to USE all this stuff.

Random Memory

Published by Jennifer under memories, music

I just turned on iTunes and the first song that started was “Give Me One Reason” by Tracey Chapman.

You know, I remember hearing this song a lot in … sophomore year of high school? There was some contest and our teacher wanted us to listen to Tracey’s music and be inspired (?) and write our own song. I think it was for extra credit. So, get this, she drags all of us to the library and puts us into the small study room (many of us had never even been in, let alone really knew was there) and throws a tape (or CD, who knows) into the player and tells us to listen to the music.

She leaves! I have no idea where she went, but clearly she thought she could leave a bunch of high schoolers in a small room and we’d sit there and be good little students and listen to the music and let our minds grow. RIGHT. We were loud. We were obnoxious high schoolers. The librarian had to tell us to shut up several times, then she kicked us out. Heh, oopsie.

That’s all I remember about that. So.. the end.

New Matt Nathanson Video!

Published by Jennifer under mattnathanson, music, video

“Come On Get Higher”

His video is a part of Yahoo’s Who’s Next campaign, and if you vote for Matt and he wiiiins… he will be recording an original session exclusively for Yahoo! Still a bit flashy in style, but much better than his last video. Big plus this time – he’s on screen for most of the video!

Idol Thoughts

Published by Jennifer under television

I echo millions when I say – why do they bother having the bottom three repeat their songs? We didn’t like them in the first place, why must we be tortured again. OK, Syesha and David weren’t *that* bad, but my god if I have to listen to that horrible country jug band rendition of 8 Days a Week one more time I will spew in an envelope and send it to the AI peeps.

Ah question of the century – Paula, where IS your head? Kudos, Ryan.

Day in HMB

Published by Jennifer under Uncategorized

I spent all day at a photo shoot in Half Moon Bay at a beautiful hotel.

Lunch was had at Barbara’s Fish Trap – which has gained a new friend, me. De-liiish. I had their “award winning” clam chowder in a sourdough bread bowl. The clam chowder was darker (they don’t use cream apparently) and had a bunch of goodies inside. PLENTY of clam, potato bits, and all sorts of other yummy things mixed in it. It’s not a tiny bread bowl either. My coworker had their fish of the day sandwich and it was a huge slab of fish on a sourdough roll. The only eh thing about the place is that they only take cash. Good to know in advance!

Pictures later. My feet hurt and my camera is over there–> and I don’t want to get up. I have to go through my pics for work tomorrow anyway.. all 600 of them. Though I must say, yay for my Canon battery! I didn’t have to use a new one at all. Quite magical if I saysomyself.

Meanwhile… this is yet another post going live and yet nobody can see it right now. I feel like I’m talking to myself.

DAMN DOMAIN ISSUES.

little victories

Published by Jennifer under Uncategorized

Despite being a busy weekend with friends I managed to accomplish (or come reeaaally close to accomplishing) a few projects.

.: redesign of my site – which if you’re reading this post – then you see the site! (But as I actually type this post my site still looks the same and it looks as though I haven’t posted in awhile. Pfft to that! Domain issues. Hopefully my coworker can help me out!)

.: in the same vein – I switched from Blogger to Wordpress. I’ve been playing with WP for awhile personally and at work and decided it was time to switch over.

.: I FINALLY finished my scrapbook project! Now, on to the next! Never-ending cycle, but I love it.

Quick weekend, hopefully it’ll be a quick week as well. This week I’ll be busy with a few photoshoot assignments at work, some graphic design, and some web development – lots of work to be done! This weekend I’ll be spending a moderate amount of moola at the Scrapbook Expo and celebrating a friend’s engagement.

Here’s hoping my domain issues are over soon.

Friday Five

Published by Jennifer under meme

Way back when, there used to be a site for Friday memes called The Friday Five. There are still some floating around and frankly I’m not sure if the official site came back or what – so instead, I thought I’d go as far back as I could in what archives I have and pull out a Friday Five that was the closest to March 7th.

The FF for March 7th, 2003. (Looks like I posted the FF on a Thursday, but I saw the Friday Five questions early thanks to the magic of time zones.)

1. What was the last song you heard?

Hate 2 Love Her by Blake Lewis
I bought his album on iTunes when it came out and at first it was just OK – I had to listen to it a few times but now it’s totally grown on me.

2. What were the last two movies you saw?

Vantage Point – which was pretty good, ya’ll should see it.
Cloverfield! Loved it! Adam got motion sickness though.

3. What were the last three things you purchased?

Another 24-mini cupcake pan, a scooper doodad, embroidery kits.

4. What four things do you need to do this weekend?

:: Kick everyone’s asses in Guitar Hero and/or Rock Band (Game Night – woo!)

:: FINISH my scrapbook project

:: Buy Penny a bigger/friendlier pet carrier (the apt people are testing our sprinklers on Tuesday and I gotta figure out what to do with Penny.)

::

5. Who are the last five people you talked to?

Adam and Maya – we’re watching New Amsterdam (pretty nifty) right now.
My cousin, talking about various details about her wedding.
My boss and coworkers – random workie stuff.
