Water Cooler Held Hostage! News at 11?

Published by Jennifer under twitter

I follow a bunch of people, companies, and news media on Twitter. One of the best pieces of advice for companies and news media (etc) when diving into the Twitter-world is to be personable. For media, yes, headlines/links to articles(or videos) are great and that is what people are ultimately looking for, but at the same time, have some fun.

Here’s a fun little exchange I saw between San Francisco/Bay Area CBS 5 (@cbs5) and KGO Radio (@kgoradio) on Twitter:

Totally snagged that from this week’s TGIF GIF post on the Late Night with Jimmy Fallon blog. That’s got to be one of my favorite post categories over there. They take a clip from the show during the week and have it on repeat. Simple fun, my friends!

The Piano

Published by Jennifer under photography

On my birthday I pulled my SLR out of the bag to take a photo and I honestly had to take a few seconds to remember just what kind of setting I wanted to do. This irked me. My god I haven’t taken very many photos lately! Or as many with my SLR. I seem to carry around the point and shoot for all those ‘quick moments’, but I haven’t been used my SLR in ages. So I made sure to bring it with me on my crafty vacation.

The little house on the coast we stayed at provided me with a lot of little knick-knacks and whoosits to take photos of (and of course, the beach and ocean). In the den, that we didn’t really use, the home owners had an old piano which I took probably 30 photos of. An added bonus was that the den was soaked in this beautiful orange light – some mixture of the curtain filtered light and the wood paneling. It gave the room a completely different feel.

More from the room later.. for now, here’s one of my fave shots of the piano.

YMCA and lost brain cells

Published by Jennifer under memories

Awhile back I read about how the YMCA in Modesto is closing.I think it’s the only YMCA in the area, though I could be wrong.

I have two memories of when I was growing up of that YMCA. The first one I was super little, maybe.. six? I don’t know, but little. I was in some playgroup – I think my parents were working out and dropped me off in child care. It was time to go outside to play in the playground. I took one step, ONE STEP, outside and had a slight chill. The woman in charge looked down at me, “Oh you’re cold? We can’t have you getting sick. In you go.” No playtime for me. The rest of that experience must have been either horribly boring after that or they knocked me out because I have no more memories of that particular trip. Maybe they let me play with paints and the fumes erased my memories. Or maybe I was just six and that kind of stuff is replaced with more meaningful memories like Christmas morning or “skateboarding” on one’s scooter only to fall and mutilate the insides of your ankles – you know, heartwarming memories.

My other memory is much better because it involves their swimming pools. One pool was super shallow, smelly, and warm. The other had to be the deepest pool I’d ever been in. Something like 11ft – I’m not sure if that is correct, nor if it is even a significantly high number to you – but to me it was and I *loved* it. If I wasn’t holding my breath and sinking to the very bottom, I was putting my legs up on the edge of the pool and submerging myself upside down and opening my eyes. In this position I’d watch my hands touch the surface of the water, hypnotizing myself and probably losing a few brain cells in the process. It was fantastic.

Update to my ER memory post

Published by Jennifer under memories

So in my last post (An ‘ER’ Memory) I noted that in my Sophomore year of high school I had answered a silly question by the yearbook staff and it was chosen to be included in that year’s yearbook. After pulling out my yearbook and scanning it (and laughing a few times as I look at everyone’s pictures – including my own) I noticed I was a bit off on the question and my quote, just minor things, but anyway.. here ya go!

Oh and I totally blurred out the other people and the autographs I had on that part of the page.

I must say, it annoys the crap out of me that they didn’t bother putting my whole name on the second line. Clearly they had the room! augh. Boo editor, boooo.

An ‘ER’ Memory

Published by Jennifer under memories, television

I just finished watching the final two hours of ER. Actually, three hours if you count the retrospective they aired before the finale. Oh man did that bring on the teary eyes or what? I’m such a sap, I always have been. No matter how long it’s been, certain scenes can totally make me sniffle and dab my eyes with a tissue. Like what many of the actors were saying, the show had a way with being able to connect with their viewers.

But Jen, it’s just a TV show!

I know. But it was a good TV show. Granted, I haven’t been ER’s #1 fan or anything – I think went several seasons where I’d seen only a few handfuls of episodes sprinkled throughout the season. However, when it started in 1994, it became the first major drama that I watched, religiously, for seasons upon seasons.

How crazed was I for this show? Well… I own ER scrubs and at least two t-shirts. All purchased from the now defunct WB Stores (where I also purchased various Lois & Clark crap, but that’s a whole ‘nother post, for another time.) They are of course put away in some box back home, but I think the funniest memory I have, somewhat relating to ER, has to be my Sophomore year of high school (in the second season of ER at this point.) The yearbook staff went around to all the classes and asked students to answer a silly question. If your answer was chosen, you’d have it featured in the yearbook along with your photo. So guess what – my answer was chosen.

The question I had to answer?

“If you were on fire, who would you want to put you out and why?”

My response?

“Noah Wyle and George Clooney — now THAT’S intensive care!”

Growing Up

Published by Jennifer under me

Last Tuesday I turned 29 years old. In one more year I won’t be able to say that I’m in my twenties. I’m not really sure I care so much, ok so maybe just a smidge, but for the most part it’s not really phasing me. Why? No clue, never really put a lot into the age thing really.

However…

The other day, while away on a vacation with my friend S., I was in the bathroom fixing my hair when I noticed something. It couldn’t be what I thought it was. I don’t have those. I was not ready for what I think I found. I pressed my hand on my head and walked out into the living room calling her name. I called her name in a serious tone which, added with the sight of my hand pressed on my head, caused her to think something was wrong.

S: “Oh my gosh, are you OK??”

I tilted my head toward her.

Me: “Is this a GRAY HAIR?!”

She just about doubled over in laughter and I repeated my question to which she, between laughs replied that yes.. it was a gray hair.

I know people get gray hair at all sorts of ages and even some begin to lose their hair young – it was just somewhat of a surprise to me.
